EURFC's BUCS Super Rugby captain Ollie Leatherbarrow has signed a professional contract with Newcastle Falcons ahead of the 2023/24 season.
The rampaging back row has been a lynchpin of the EURFC side, scoring 10 tries in 13 appearances, including a try at Sandy Park earlier this season.
A dynamic and industrious player, Leatherbarrow has also represented Scotland U20s and played for Exeter Chiefs in this season's Premiership Rugby cup winning side.
Speaking about the move, Leatherbarrow admitted that the overwhelming feeling was excitement.
“I’m massively excited by the move and the chance to be part of the Newcastle squad. I’d say my biggest strength is probably my ball carrying, and the contact area in general. I quite like getting stuck in there and I don’t shy away from it, and aside from that it’s just about generally working hard for the team.”
Interim Falcons Head Coach Mark Laycock was also delighted to have secured Leatherbarrow's signature.
"We’re looking forward to Ollie arriving in the summer and giving us some strong go-forward, as well as further competition in the back row. He’s been down to Exeter University and spent a couple of years with the Chiefs during that time, and it looks like he has continued along the same lines in terms of his carrying threat and what he brings to the game.”
